Fifth Court of Appeals
Justice David J. Schenck was appointed to the Fifth District Court of Appeals by Governor Rick Perry and took the oath on January 16, 2015. He was elected to a six-year term in 2016. In private practice, he led the Dallas Issues and Appeals Practice of Jones Day and, thereafter, the national Specialized Litigation, Advanced Motion Practice of Dykema Gossett. He also served as Deputy Attorney General for Legal Counsel from 2010 to 2012.
Justice Schenck graduated from Baylor Law School in 1992 as valedictorian and served as editor-in-chief of the law review. Following his graduation he served as a law clerk to the Honorable Henry A. Politz, Chief Judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals, Fifth Circuit. He is board certified in civil appellate law, and is a member of the American Law Institute.
