The Office of Court Administration's Judicial Branch Certification Commission (JBCC) licenses court interpreters for spoken language interpretation. An applicant for a court interpreter's license must pass oral and written exams designed by the Consortium for Language Access in the Courts.
Court interpreting is a highly skilled profession that requires college or graduate level education, training, and experience, as well as knowledge of high-level legal terminology, regionalisms and slang.
