Third Court of Appeals
On Friday, May 8, 2020, the statewide court network was the target of a ransomware attack. While trial courts were not affected, all the appellate courts in Texas, including the Third Court of Appeals, were affected to varying degrees. As a result of the attack, the record submission portal used by clerks and reporters to electronically file records with the Third Court of Appeals is no longer operational.
Starting May 26, 2020, clerks and reporters should e-file records through eFileTexas.gov: https://www.efiletexas.gov/.
Reporters’ Records: Attached are how-to instructions for court reporters. Please note, when e-filing a record, it is important that you choose Reporter's Record from the Filing Code drop-down menu. By selecting Reporter's Record, only court personnel will be permitted to view your e-filing.
Court Clerks’ Records: Court clerks should follow the same how-to instructions with a few modifications. First, trial court clerks already have an e-File Texas account and won’t need to request a new account. Second, on page 15 of the instructions, instead of choosing filing type “Reporter Record”, clerks should choose “Clerk Record.” Please note, when e-filing a document, it is important that you choose Clerk's Record from the Filing Code drop-down menu. By selecting Clerk’s Record, only court personnel will be permitted to view your e-filing.
Extensions of Time / Noticing: Clerks and Court Reporters should email requests for extension of time, notices, and status reports to firstname.lastname@example.org. All documents, including requests, should be submitted as PDF attachments. Extension request templates may be downloaded at https://www.txcourts.gov/3rdcoa/practice-before-the-court/forms/. (Clerks' and reporter's records must be submitted by way of efiletexas.gov.)
