Gov. Greg Abbott announced his appointment Monday of Evan A. Young of Austin to replace retired Justice Eva Guzman. Young, who grew up in San Antonio, is a former law clerk to U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia and currently chairs Baker Botts’ Supreme Court and Constitutional Law Practice.

“Evan Young has already made outstanding contributions to the Texas justice system,” Chief Justice Nathan L. Hecht said, “as a member of the Judicial Council, the judiciary’s policy-making body, and the Supreme Court Rules Advisory Committee, which advises the Court on procedural and administrative matters for all Texas courts. He will continue to serve the people of Texas with distinction, and the Court is proud to have him join us.”
