The Court of Criminal Appeals will hold a Memorial Service honoring Presiding Judge Michael J. McCormick, who passed away July 23, 2023. Judge McCormick was elected to the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals in 1980. In 1988, he was elected Presiding Judge where he served until his retirement in 2000.

The Court of Criminal Appeals will hold a Memorial Service honoring Judge Fortunato "Pete" Benavides who died May 5, 2023. Judge Benavides was appointed to the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals in 1991 by Governor Ann Richards. In 1994, former president Bill Clinton appointed Judge Benavides to the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals.
